Amorgos is well worth the journey

You won't find crowds of tourists in Amorgos, largely due to the fact the island doesn't have an airport - and it can take around seven hours to reach it from the port city of Pireaus near Athens.

Still, adventurers shouldn't cross it off the list; if you make the journey, you'll be rewarded with some ridiculously beautiful scenery, local bars and family-owned restaurants that offer a truly authentic Greek experience, and a blissfully slow pace of life that's a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle to be found at other holiday spots.

How to get there: You can get a direct flight to Athens and then head to the port city of Pireaus, from which there is a ferry service to Amorgos.
